About WAMT

West Auckland Montessori Trust (WAMT) supports the advancement of Montessori learning in Auckland and facilitates the provision of the Montessori primary classes at Huapai District School.

Who we are

This website is provided by volunteer Trustees who are also parents of children enrolled in the Montessori classrooms at Huapai District School. As volunteers of WAMT, we are passionate about Montessori and are strong advocates for progressing Montessori education and raising awareness of its amazing benefits. As parents, we also strive for a positive learning environment for our children. We are grateful for access to Montessori education through the classrooms at Huapai District School, where our own children thrive. We believe that children deserve an education that is tailored to their individual needs, rich in community, and is highly relevant for the 21st century, and that is what Montessori is about.

Our Mission

We aim to empower educators, families, and communities to support the general advancement of Montessori education. We want more children to benefit from being able to access quality Montessori education and our service around making primary classrooms available is a step in that goal.

Our Purpose, Scope and Intent

WAMT was established in 2005 for the purpose of creating Montessori Primary Class at Huapai District School. It is a body corporate and consists of the Trustees. While most of our current focus is on the Montessori Primary classrooms at Huapai District School, the Trusts potential scope is much broader and includes:

  • The general advancement of Montessori education from pre-school through to secondary schools in New Zealand.

  • Furthering and advancing the knowledge and skills for New Zealand Montessori teachers.

  • Assisting schools in Auckland to establish and maintain Montessori pre-school, primary and secondary classes.

  • Funding salaries or salary contributions for teachers offering the Montessori method of education and providing scholarships, facilities and funds for the training of teaching staff in the Montessori method of education.

  • Providing for the purchase of specialised equipment, books, journals and other teaching materials for the purposes of teaching the Montessori method of education.

The establishment of the Trust is to support the Montessori pedagogy in education in New Zealand, and as Trustees we are working towards this. Our immediate attention is involved with promotion, enrolment, and funding components of the Montessori classrooms at Huapai District School, specifically to ensure the delivery of Montessori primary education.
